The future of combustion technology
SAR brings AI expertise to the VDI conference

On May 13 and 14, 2025, the 22nd VDI Conference “Firing & Boilers” took place in Magdeburg – an important industry meeting for experts from the fields of energy, environmental and process engineering.

The focus was on innovative concepts for optimizing the operation of large combustion plants, especially when using heterogeneous fuels such as waste, biomass or sewage sludge.

SAR Process and Environmental Technology
Double the expertise on site

SAR Prozess- und Umwelttechnik was represented twice at the conference:
Dr.-Ing. Martin H. Zwiellehner, Head of Division at SAR, took on the role of conference chair and guided the audience through the varied program with confidence and expertise.
Andreas Dallinger, also part of the SAR team, inspired the audience with a practical presentation on the use of AI-supported waste analysis – from acceptance to intelligent influence on combustion control in the KRITIS environment.

The contributions clearly showed how SAR is actively shaping technical challenges with innovative and practice-oriented approaches – and setting standards for the future of combustion technology.

Firing & Boiler 2025
Platform for knowledge transfer and innovation

This year’s VDI conference provided an excellent platform for exchanging expertise and sharing practical experience in the field of complex combustion systems. In addition to questions of efficiency and operational safety, numerous presentations and discussions also focused on future topics such as artificial intelligence, carbon capture, new materials and technological developments.

The event brought together experts from industry, research, planning and authorities – with the common goal of advancing solutions to the challenges of the energy and heating transition.
