Automation Technician should be able to work with a wide variety of electrical systems, installing, repairing and maintaining them to the specifications of the system or the organizations they work for. These positions are vital and ensure that those electrical systems are running properly and performing to their highest capabilities. Automation Technicians may perform work in various systems, include industry, lighting, security, and distribution.

Automation Technicians should be willing and able to work in all conditions and at any time, as many of the systems they are required to work on may need maintenance at unpredictable times and in various locations. Knowledge of good electrical practices, familiarity with NEC, NFPA and OSHA codes, rules and regulations, and an emphasis on safe work habits are required. Position can include up to 35% travel, night-shift, holidays and weekend work.

Your tasks

  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair all power generation and distribution equipment.
  • Study, read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Help guide, support and teach co-workers.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators and reactors.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems and other related devices.

Your profile

  • Two or more years as junior electrician in the industrial field, associates or equivalent experience. (usually 7 or more years’ experience)
  • Good electrical background.
  • Good knowledge of the principles and methods (e.g., sequences of installations, coordination with other trades, conduit bending, wire pulling, rating of equipment) used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and components (e.g., wiring, switches, lighting, transformers, high voltage, switchboards, motor control centers) to accomplish work assignments.
  • Good knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment (e.g., cable reels, conduit benders, stripping tools, voltage or current meters, wire or cable cutters) used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and components (e.g., wiring, switches, lighting, transformers, high voltage, switchboard, motor control centers) to accomplish work assignments.
  • Good knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to safely complete work assignments and provide direction/information.
  • Good knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to maintain safety and security of facilities/departments, staff, property, etc.
  • Good ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Good troubleshooting of complex electrical facilities.
  • Good ability to handle and work with multimeters and to interpret measuring.
