SAR supplied the entire electrical engineering for the largest chiller in Germany on behalf of E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions Germany.
With a total cooling capacity of 48 megawatts, Heidelberg is now home to the largest cooling supply complex in Europe.
The cold generated is used to supply the university, the university hospital and neighboring institutes and research facilities, such as the German Cancer Research Center, with cold water at around 4°C.
The forecast demand for cooling at the Heidelberg University campus will continue to rise over the next few years. It is expected to almost double by 2030. The system has therefore already been designed in such a way that further chillers can be integrated as modules.
