KNEXT on a great journey - Public debut of the first autonomous coffee shop 'Made in Germany'

The GITEX Technology Week 2021 took place from October 17th to 21st, at the Dubai World Trade Center. GITEX Global is considered the third largest trade fair for future technologies world wide and the largest technology show in the Arab region.

KNEXT and SAR participated under the "FUTURE of RETAIL" category, as a technology partner of the public UAE telecommunication group ETISALAT. The participation was tailored around the pre-launch of KNEXT's brand new fully autonomous premium coffee shop, which was developed by SAR in just 10 months.

KNEXT: automation solutions for food service and hospitality industry

The innovative brand KNEXT - a new business segment of SAR – focusses on automation solutions that support the food service and hospitality industry to make them future proof and more efficient. In addition to more than 35 years of experience in robotics and automation, KNEXT also combines many years of culinary expertise in the international luxury hotel industry.

Coffeeshop on 8 square meters

The brand new fully integrated, autonomous coffee shop from KNEXT is the world's first unattended shop-in-shop solution for the premium sector, made in Germany. In addition to barista coffee, iced coffee specialties, freshly brewed craft tea and iced teas are prepared.

There are also over 300 snacks and baked goods available for purchase. The system offers comparable revenue potential like a manual, modern coffee shop, but requires only about eight square meters of space and very little manpower. The fresh premium vending technology is a perfect solution for take-out food businesses as well as shopping malls and corporate dining venues.

KNEXT at the GITEX in Dubai

Dozens of high-tech companies and developers from all over the world presented the latest innovations and technology applications at ETISALAT's GITEX booth.

The spectrum was broad and ranged from healthcare robotics to smart home technologies, flying drones, indoor farming, e-mobility, logistics solutions and store automation to new unattended catering concepts for the out-of-home market.

KNEXT's high-quality, robotics-supported coffee shop concept was one of the event highlights, and the top exhibit among the foodservice applications and received spectacular response.

Over 1,800 coffee specialties were served

The prominent and highly visible top location of the KNEXT exhibit at the Top of the exhibition area - directly above the main grandstand contributed to the lively visitor rush. In fact, barriers had to be set up regularly to regulate the flow of visitors due to large crowds.

The KNEXT team served more than 1,800 coffee specialties, iced teas and snacks to the many international trade visitors over five exhibition days. Especially KNEXT´s iced espresso and tea drinks prepared by two KUKA robots were particularly well received, in part of course due to Dubai's year-around sunshine with outside temperatures of well over 38 degrees Celsius.

Visit from the Consul General

In addition to many interested trade visitors such as real estate developers, shopping Mall operators, innovation scouts and gastronomy developers, our team was also pleased to welcome the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany together with a delegation from the German Chamber of Commerce and the German Pavilion of EXPO2020 for a coffee tasting.

Many conversations with potential clients from the region also re-confirmed that the label "Made in Germany" is more than ever valued very highly as a predicate for sustainable premium quality and innovative high-tech solutions.

The exhibitor team masters demanding conditions

The dedicated exhibition team of KNEXT/SAR, consisting of Harald Rohrmoser, Mohamed Azzuz, Mergim Morina, Alexander Surtsev and Daniel Schelske, mastered the demanding conditions of heat, high humidity and current logistical challenges in long preparation days.

They made sure that the new KNEXT coffee shop passed its first international test with flying colors. Big thanks go to all involved team members on site in Dubai and to all SAR experts who supported the successful launch event from the Dingolfing Headquarters... Chapeau!!
