SAR Combustion Control Technology: annual review and outlook for 2023

SAR Combustion Control Technology looks back on a very successful and eventful year in 2022.

Work assignments that had been postponed "due to Corona" could be processed. In parallel with newly acquired projects, this led to a wealth of activities in 2022, which could only be handled through the high personal commitment of the team - always to the complete satisfaction of our customers:

Projects and associated commissioning activities were successfully carried out both in the immediate vicinity of the SAR headquarters, for example at the Neufahrn, Großaitingen, Zolling, Burgkirchen and Traunreut sites, and throughout Germany, for example in Wuppertal, Stuttgart, Herten, Leuna, Hagen and Krefeld.

The trend continues that the share of projects that are carried out abroad is steadily increasing. Last year, for example, the first project in Belgium was successfully completed, as were commissioning activities in Italy and South Korea.

Practice-related research and development

In parallel to the project work, we have consistently worked on practice-oriented research and development:

  • A project funded by the Bavarian Research Foundation is being worked on jointly with the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental and Safety Technology in Sulzbach-Rosenberg and the Schweinfurt joint power plant.
  • In close cooperation with our partners Erium, the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) / machine learning for the optimization of existing plants is currently also being intensively pursued.
  • Future topics such as the simulation of energy generation plants or virtual commissioning were also successfully worked on and published. Using the example of the Schwarza thermal recycling plant, the feasibility of a "digital twin" of a grate-fired waste treatment plant was demonstrated for the first time.

The current results from research & development could be presented to a broad and international audience at several top-class conferences and symposia. SAR was represented with papers and presentations at the 13th INFUB (European Conference on Industrial Furnaces and Boilers) in Albufeira / Portugal, the "VDI Wissensforum" (German Engineers knowledge board) in Regensburg and Düsseldorf, the 43rd PREWIN-Network-Meeting (Performance, Reliability and Emissions Reduction in Waste Incinerators) in Bologna / Italy as well as at the 49th "Kraftwerkstechnisches Kolloquium" in Dresden.

IFAT Munich and Cluster of Environmental Technologies Bavaria

As already mentioned in a separate article, the world's leading environmental technology trade fair IFAT in Munich was also a great success. As a member of "Cluster of Environmental Technologies Bavaria", SAR played an active role in organizing the forum on the topic of "Waste incineration and climate protection - (not) a contradiction", including a panel discussion.

From Continental Europe to Scotland to the Azores to Vietnam

The outlook for the coming year is extremely promising and the schedule is already well filled. Among others, the first projects in France are scheduled as well as further projects in the BeNeLux countries, in England and Poland. Also in more "exotic" locations like Scotland, Vietnam and the Azores exciting projects are planned to be completed...
